Sina is one of the most important female figures in Samoan mythology, best known from 'Sina and the Eel,' the story that explains the origin of the coconut. Sina (also known as Hina or Ina in other Polynesian cultures) was a beautiful maiden who discovered a young eel in a pool and kept it as a pet named Tuna. The eel grew unnaturally large and followed her everywhere, eventually revealing itself as the King of Fiji in disguise.
