Skeppsrå
Skeppsrået (the ship spirit) is the guardian spirit of a vessel in Swedish maritime folklore, analogous to the Tomte on land. Every ship had its Skeppsrå — a small, tomte-like figure who protected the vessel and crew from storms, pirates, and disasters. When a new ship was built, a small hidden compartment or 'rå-rum' (spirit room) was sometimes constructed belowdecks as his dwelling.
