Skiapod
Skiapodes ('Shadow-Foots') are the one-legged, one-footed people of Greek and Roman paradoxography, placed in the scorched interior of Ethiopia or India. Their single oversized foot is used as a sun-shade when they lie on their backs, leg raised. Ctesias' account, relayed by Pliny (Natural History 7.23), made them a staple of medieval bestiaries, most famously the 1493 Nuremberg Chronicle.
