Qori-Ismaris (literally 'the stick-rubber') is a legendary figure from Somali mythology known as the Hyena-Man, the Somali equivalent of the Western werewolf. According to traditional belief, Qori-Ismaris was a man who possessed the dark power to transform into a hyena by rubbing a magical stick on his hindquarters at nightfall. Before dawn, he would repeat the same action to reverse the transformation and return to human shape.
