Sotho Ancestral Ghosts (Matsatsi)
In Basotho belief of Lesotho, death is a transition to another realm where the ancestors (badimo) continue to influence the living. Most ancestors are benevolent protectors, but those who died violently, were not properly buried or bear unresolved grievances may wander as restless ghosts (matsatsi). Rituals of animal sacrifice, beer offerings and divination ensure ancestral peace and family bonds.
