Abuk is the first woman of Dinka mythology, the one well-known female deity among the Dinka and Nuer (where she is called Buk or Acol). According to the creation myth, Nhialic made Abuk and Garang from clay; Abuk's wish to plant more than the single daily grain led to the separation of heaven and earth. She is the mother of Deng and patroness of women and gardens.
