Spiritus (also called Spertus) is a Swedish folk magical creature — a 'drag-being' kept in a box or glass bottle. It was created through a dangerous ritual: one must hatch a rooster's egg or a raven's egg by keeping it in the left armpit (or sitting on it like a hen) until it hatches. The resulting creature — a lizard, large beetle, spider, or tiny skeleton — becomes the owner's servant for life.
