Stiklestadsgjenferden
Stiklestadsgjenferden (the Stiklestad Ghosts) are the spectral apparitions said to haunt the Stiklestad battlefield in Verdal, Trøndelag. The Battle of Stiklestad in 1030 was one of the most significant battles in Norwegian history, where King Olav Haraldsson (later Saint Olav) fell. According to local tradition, the ghosts of the fallen soldiers reappear on the anniversary of the battle, reenacting the fight in the mist that rises from the low-lying fields. The phenomenon is most often reported on July 29 (Olsok, the feast of St. Olav) when mist conditions are right. Locals have reported seei
