Sun Wukong
Sun Wukong (孫悟空), the Monkey King, is the trickster hero of the Ming-dynasty novel Journey to the West: a stone-born monkey with a magic staff that can grow to any size, somersault clouds, transformations, and hairs that create copies of himself. After rebelling against heaven, he guards the pilgrim Xuanzang westward, embodying wit, disobedience, and eventual enlightenment.
