Sun Goddess (Muisca)

deity · United States · North America

Muisca tradition pairs the Moon goddess Chía with Sué (also Sua), the masculine Sun god, both born from the creator Chiminigagua. The zipa of Bacatá claimed descent from Sué's lineage, and the Sun was worshipped with offerings at sacred sites of the Colombian highlands. Modern summaries that call the Sun a 'goddess' likely conflate Sué with Chía; Muisca belongs to Colombia, not the USA.
