Sweat House
The sweat house is a central institution of Yurok life: an earth-covered plank building in every village where men gathered daily, slept and prepared for ceremonies. Heated by fire rather than steam, it was the assembly place of the men and the setting of prayers and purification before the world-renewing dances such as the Deerskin and Brush dances.
