Tāwhaki
Tāwhaki is a semi-divine hero and atua of lightning and thunder in Māori tradition, a grandson of the sky who slew the man-eating bird-ogre Matuku-tangotango, freed his kinswoman Whaitiri from its belly, and climbed to the heavens, returning with the powers of lightning and thunder. He is closely linked to sacred mountains, and he is said to appear to heroes in disguise to test their worth.
