Tawa is the primary creator deity in Hopi tradition, the Sun Spirit who existed alone in endless space (Tokpella) before creation. He formed the First World and created Sotuknang, his nephew, who in turn created Spider Woman as a messenger. Tawa divided himself creating Muiyinwuh, God of All Life Germs.
