God of winds, storms, clouds, and weather. Tawhirimatea, son of Ranginui and Papatuanuku, was the only one of the children who opposed the separation of their parents. Enraged at the forced separation, he joined his father in the sky and became the god of wind and storms. He unleashed devastating tempests against his brothers, attacking Tane's forests with hurricanes, driving Tangaroa into the ocean depths, and pursuing Rongo and Haumia across the land.
