Telematua
Telematua is a legendary giant-ancestor of Tuvaluan tradition, a being of colossal size said to have shaped the islands and their channels; his passage or labour is recalled as the origin of the passages (ava) between islets. Sluggish and indifferent to humans in most accounts, he is nonetheless a figure of the islands' ancient founding stories.
