Temple Guardian (Mixtec)

guardian · Mexico · Mesoamerica

Not independently attested as a named 'temple guardian' figure of Mixtec folklore. No Mixtec source records a stone or jade sentinel guarding temple entrances. The closest real analogue is the deity presiding over the Mixtec Temple of Death at Ñuu Ndeya (Chalcatongo): the skeletal goddess Lady 9 Grass (a Cihuacoatl-like figure) and the Lords of the Underworld who received the dead there.
