Tenga

goddess · Burkina Faso · West Africa

Tenga is the earth goddess of the Mossi (Moose) people of Burkina Faso, wife of Wende, the supreme sky god. She is the guardian of the land, its fields, and its fertility, and authority over the earth belongs to her; humans direct their prayers through Tenga to reach Wende. She is central to Mossi ideas of land, farming, and chieftaincy.
