Terton (Treasure Revealer)
Tertöns are treasure revealers of Tibetan Buddhism: visionary lamas and yogins who discover hidden terma, teachings concealed by Padmasambhava and Yeshe Tsogyal in caves, lakes, rocks, and monasteries. Entering meditative states, they often break convention to retrieve the hidden dharma. The terma system let Buddhist teachings evolve across centuries.
