Teryel is the most famous ogress in Kabyle (Algerian Amazigh) mythology — a terrifying female monster with an anthropophagic (man-eating) appetite. According to a foundational Kabyle myth, when humanity was created as fifty men and fifty women, 98 chose to settle and build houses, but one man and one woman chose to live in the wild.
