Thagyamin (King of the Nats)
Thagyamin is the Burmese name for Sakka (Indra), king of the Tāvatiṃsa heaven and head of the 37 nats. King Anawrahta of Pagan placed him atop the nat pantheon in the 11th century to harmonize animism with Buddhism; unlike nats who died violent deaths, he earned his throne by merit. During Thingyan he descends invisibly, recording mortals' fates in a golden book or a dog-hide ledger.
