Tik-tik (or Wakwak)
Tik-tik and wakwak are names of the bird-like vampire of Philippine folklore, an aswang form that drinks blood, often attacking pregnant women and sleeping victims. It takes the shape of a large bird or can appear human, and its cry warns of its approach — a loud 'tik-tik' means it is near, a faint one far. Belief in it reinforces taboos around night travel.
