Tikbalang (Tigbalang)
Tikbalang (tigbalang) is the horse-headed, human-bodied demon of Philippine folklore, a tall gaunt being whose long legs bring its knees above its head. It lures travelers in forests and mountains and makes them lose their way, though seizing its mane can bind it to service. Early Spanish accounts describe a forest phantom predating the horse; a Hindu Hayagriva origin has been proposed.
