Timun Mas (Golden Cucumber) is the heroine of a popular Javanese folktale. Born from a magical cucumber given to a childless couple by the ogre-giant Buto Ijo, she was promised to the giant as his meal when she turned seventeen. As the deadline approaches, a kind hermit gives the parents four magical items: cucumber seeds, needles, salt, and shrimp paste. When Buto Ijo comes to claim her, Timun Mas flees, scattering each item behind her. The cucumber seeds transform into a dense cucumber forest, needles become a bamboo thicket, salt becomes a vast ocean, and shrimp paste becomes a boiling sea
