To-Kabinana
To-Kabinana is a wise culture hero and benevolent creator figure in the mythology of New Britain, Papua New Guinea. He and his foolish brother To-Karvuvu were born when an old woman scratched her arms with pandanus strips while wading in the sea, and the two bloodied strips swelled into boys. To-Kabinana created good and useful things for humanity — he climbed a coconut tree and threw two ripe coconuts downward, which burst and became his wives. He created fish, coconut trees, and beneficial customs. His stories explain the origin of many good things in the world and are central to the mytholo
