Tokoloshe
The tokoloshe (tikoloshe, thokolosi) is the dwarf-like water spirit of Nguni and Basotho belief, feared across Southern Africa and prominent in Eswatini, where it is a favoured agent of witches and sorcerers. Invisible to most people, it works at night causing illness, nightmares and ruin, and may be warded off by raising beds on bricks. Its mischief explains misfortune and enforces social norms.
