Tomte
Tomte (Swedish), nisse (Norwegian/Danish), or tonttu (Finnish) is a household spirit from Nordic folklore — a small elderly man (60–90 cm) with white beard, red pointed cap, and grey wool clothes, dwelling under farmstead floorboards. He works at night tending livestock, protecting the farm, and expects porridge with butter at Christmas.
