Turtle appears in the oral tradition of the Miwok of central California as a patient, water- and earth-associated elder figure who prevails through slow wisdom rather than strength, a role consistent with turtle tales across California and the wider Native world. The record's 'storm-calling water spirit' framing, however, is not documented in Miwok sources.
