Um Homar
Um Homar ('mother of the donkey'), or Homarat al-Guyla, is a Qatari noon-demon: a terrifying half-woman, half-donkey creature said to prey on children who wander outdoors at midday. Parents keep children indoors at noon and invoke her to enforce it. She personifies the dangers of the sun-scorched hours in desert village life and remains a living cautionary tale.
