Upyr
Upyr is the Russian and Ukrainian form of the Slavic vampire, a corpse that rises at night to drink blood and spread death among its former community. Belief in the upyr is recorded in early chronicles and folk medicine, with protective customs including burial in red cloth, iron objects, and scattered poppies to distract the undead.
