Utburd
Utburd (also called utbør, utburðr) is the haunting spirit of an abandoned or murdered infant in Norwegian folklore. In pre-Christian and early Christian Norway, unwanted children - especially those born out of wedlock - were sometimes abandoned in the wilderness to die of exposure, a practice called utburd. The spirit of such an infant was believed to return as a terrifying ghost that haunted the area where it died.
