Vågakallen (the Old Man of Vågan) is the troll king of Lofoten, said to sit on his throne 1,000 meters above sea level in the Lofoten mountains. He was the ruler of the Lofoten trolls and the father of Hestmannen (the Horseman). Vågakallen sat on his mountain throne watching over his kingdom — the Lofoten archipelago, Vestfjorden, and the surrounding sea. According to legend, when he was caught by the sunrise, he and his entire kingdom were turned to stone, becoming the dramatic Lofoten mountains.
