Viejito del Monte
El Viejo del Monte, the 'Old Man of the Forest' (Kiwíkgolo in Miskito), is the ghost of a tireless hunter punished by becoming a shaggy giant with a single eye who now defends the animals of the Nicaraguan bush. He rules over deer and game, thunder and rain, and can ride as a monstrous horseman; hunters must ask his leave before taking any of his creatures.
