Vodník

water-spirit · Czech Republic · Slavic

Vodník is the Czech male water spirit, ruler of rivers and ponds. He appears as a green-clad man with a dripping coat, or as a frog. Uses colored ribbons to lure victims into water, storing their souls in porcelain pots in his underwater palace. Can be benevolent (helping fishermen) or malevolent (drowning bathers). His wife is frog-like. Friday is his day off from man-snatching.
