Waniwani
Not independently attested in documented Māori folklore or academic sources. No source confirms a giant monitor lizard or reptile named Waniwani. Māori tradition does record the taniwha, powerful supernatural beings often pictured as giant lizards or lake monsters, and fossil finds of giant moa-eating eagles may have shaped such stories, but no 'Waniwani' figure was found.
