Whale Deity of Cherokee
Not attested as a whale deity of the Cherokee. The Cherokee tell of the Dakwa, a great fish of the deep waters, whose name was later used in translations of the Bible for 'whale'; Mooney recorded 'The Hunter and the Dakwa,' a tale of a man swallowed and carried by the great fish, told by the storytellers Swimmer and Tagwaddihi. No whale god or cave guardian appears in Cherokee tradition.
