Whale Water-Spirit of Shoshone
Not independently attested in Shoshone folklore. The Great Basin Shoshone had no coastal or whale traditions, and no whale water-spirit appears in their recorded stories. Their dangerous water beings are the Water Babies, eerie spirits of springs and ponds who lure people to watery deaths, along with lake and river serpents. Whale spirits belong to Arctic, Northwest Coast, and maritime peoples.
