Whiro

Whiro is the Māori god of darkness, death, and all evil, one of the children of Ranginui (the sky father) and Papatūānuku (the earth mother). Rival to Tāne, the god of light, he presides over decay, disease, and the underworld, and is said to oppose the forces of life and light. He is regarded as the embodiment of darkness within the Māori pantheon.
