White Lady (Tupi)
The Tupi water-woman is Iara (Uiara), a beautiful river siren with long dark hair who combs her tresses and sings on the bank, luring fishermen and bathers to drown in her depths. Colonists later blended her with the European White Lady, the Dama Branca, a pale figure in white seen near rivers and roads at night. She is Brazilian, so the Mexico placement is an error.
