White Lady (Tupi)
This record misplaces the being: Iara (or Yara) is the water spirit of Tupi-Guarani lore in Brazil, not of North America. Iara is a beautiful maiden who lives in rivers and sings enchantingly from the water; men who follow her song are drawn beneath the surface and drowned. Some versions describe her with a fish-like lower body. Her homeland is the Amazon and Paraná river basins of South America.
