Wildcat Guardian of Maliseet
The Maliseet wildcat figure is Lucifee (Lusifee or Lucivee), a fierce, greedy wildcat-lynx monster of Wabanaki lore, not a benevolent guardian. Lucifee is a dangerous villain who terrorizes the forest and eats smaller animals and unwary people until a clever being outwits him. The 'guardian' framing misrepresents him; he is among the most feared beings in Maliseet and Passamaquoddy stories.
