Wolf Nature-Spirit of Kwakiutl
The wolf is a major hereditary crest of the Kwakwaka'wakw. The Dzawada'enuxw recall that their ancestors were four wolves who swam from the mainland and took human form, making the wolf a tutelary ancestor rather than an abstract nature-spirit. Wolves are honored in the winter ceremonial and as clan founders, not worshipped as separate nature spirits.
