Xác

undead · Vietnam · Southeast Asia

Not independently attested as a named figure of Vietnamese folklore: 'Xác' is the Vietnamese word for corpse. The recorded traits of a reanimated body fit the attested beliefs of ma da, the restless ghost of a corpse, and quỷ nhập tràng, a wandering ghost that seizes a fresh corpse and delays the funeral.
