Xana
Xanas are water spirits of Asturian folklore, beautiful young women who dwell in springs, rivers, and caves (cuevas de xanas), often combing their long hair by the water and offering gifts or trials to passersby. Documented by Ramón Menéndez Pidal, the tradition is connected to pre-Roman Celtic belief and the cult of Diana; the name derives from Diana or Jana.
