Xbalanque (Jaguar Sun)
Xbalanque, 'Jaguar Sun,' is one of the Maya Hero Twins of the Popol Vuh. With his brother Hunahpu he descended into Xibalba, survived its lethal Houses, and defeated the Lords of Death through trickery, rising from the underworld to become the sun and the moon. He is often depicted with jaguar pelt markings, linking him to the night sun of the Maya cosmos.
