Xjabil

guardian · Guatemala · Mesoamerica

Not independently attested as a named dwarf or guardian spirit of Guatemalan folklore. No source records a Maya mountain-being called 'Xjabil' who guards peaks or restores lost objects. The closest real figures are the Yucatec Maya Xtabay, a forest temptress spirit, and the duende and alux dwarf-helper traditions of Mesoamerican folklore. The recorded name and traits appear to be modern invention.
