Yawk Yawk
The Yawkyawk are female water spirits of the Kunwinjku people of western Arnhem Land, often shown as maidens with fish tails and hair of flowing water-weed who live in freshwater creeks, billabongs, and rock pools. In one account, the girls Likanaya and Marrayka were changed into such spirits after camping near the sacred waterhole of Ngalyod, the Rainbow Serpent.
