Yeil is the Tlingit name for Raven, the central trickster and culture hero of Tlingit mythology. Yeil is responsible for many fundamental features of the world. He created the tides by making a woman under the earth to control the rise and fall of water. In the Tlingit flood narrative, Raven commanded the tide woman to raise the water.
