Yowie
The yowie is a large, hairy, ape-like being of eastern Australian oral tradition, known by many names across language groups — Gamilaraay Yō-wī, 'spirit roaming the earth at night' (recorded 1875), as well as Quinkin and joogabinna in Queensland. In Aboriginal accounts such beings enforce cultural law and warn children not to wander; in modern folklore it is also a Bigfoot-like cryptid.
