Zimwi (or Zimwi)

ogre · Zimbabwe · Southern Africa

Zimwi is a Shona ogre (giant, hairy, man-eating) from Zimbabwe folklore, dwelling in forests and caves. It represents the danger of wilderness and strangers, often depicted with backwards feet to confuse trackers. Heroes outwit it through cleverness. The term zimwi appears in Bantu religion literature as a class of ogre-like beings across southern Africa (amazimu in Zulu, madimo in Sotho).
