Bjargástafur
Bjargástafur, the 'rescue stave' or 'saving stave', is an Icelandic magical sign recorded in the Huld manuscript, compiled by Geir Vigfússon at Akureyri in 1860, and drawn so that the bearer could escape or survive any danger. Its name derives from the verb bjarga, 'to save', and the grimoire tradition promises that no misfortune could hold a person who bore it, whether on land, at sea, or in a dispute. It is one of the general talismans of protection in Icelandic folk magic, carried on paper, carved on wood, or worn on the person in times of peril. Like all the galdrastafir, its earliest know
